A decade-long love story
The First Meeting
Chris moved from Indonesia to Australia where he studied Advanced Mathematics and Computer Science in mid-1999. Beverly joined the University of New South Wales as well in 2000, studying Computer Science and Psychology. The overlap in their degrees meant that they shared a few classes together. They also happened to live in New College, a residential dormitory of UNSW. One night, Beverly wanted some help with a homework assignment, and a guy pointed her in the direction of Chris' room, saying "Chris' done the subject before, he'll know". When she knocked and walked in, Chris' room was dim, save for a desk light that shone at her face so she couldn't really see him. He was a gentleman and helped her out, and she left.
A few hours later, there was a knock on her window (which overlooked the common courtyard balcony) and in popped Chris' head, asking how she was going. Then she noticed a big "18" scrawled over his forehead. It was his 18th birthday that day.
And so it began....
The University Years
The next 3 years were a whirlwind of friends, parties and not much studying at all. Chris was naturally blessed with a brilliant mind, and so easily kicked ass with little-to-no study. Beverly did the same, but kicked much less ass ;) Whilst not #1 in the year group, her grades were still fine, though she did come in #1 in a random Medical subject.
Chris and Beverly became fast best friends, which then snowballed into a relationship within weeks. They were inseparable, much to the chagrin of their other college friends that had to put up with their lovey doveyness ;)
It was not their intention to be in a long-term relationship, but God had different plans in store for them...
The Early Working Years
After graduating, they thought they were parting ways as Beverly intended to move to Singapore. However, she was offered a position at Microsoft, commencing straight after graduation, which she gleefully accepted.
The stars aligned and months later, Chris was also offered a role in Microsoft, where he has climbed the ranks since. They loved their jobs, they loved their company, and life was very very good.
Beverly then left for eBay, her dream company. Their relationship strengthened even more during the years and they led a comfortable, blissful life. And then everything changed. Some 7 years into the relationship, they sat down and talked about their future. They decided that issues such as religion and culture were too difficult to broach, and decided to take the easy way out and run away instead. This left them apart for 10 long, painful months.
It took only a few months for both of them to realise that they were truly part of each other. It just was not possible to be apart. Then on Beverly's birthday, Chris sneakily asked her out for a degustation meal. He knew her too well; she couldn't resist and accepted. They had an amazing time together, and the turning point came shortly afterward when Chris took her out on a romantic date at Icebergs - he really pulled out on all the stops!
And so, they fell madly into love again (but really, did they ever fall out of love?) and their relationship became even stronger, and even better, than ever.
And as everyone guessed, it was only a matter of time.....
The Commitment
Life was incredible once they were back together, and they both knew they were soon going to make a commitment to each other. It was almost an unspoken understanding; a need and longing that they both knew would be satisfied soon. What Beverly did not know was just how soon those 4 little words would come..... Until one day, Chris suggested going on a holiday. What Beverly did not know was the location, which was a surprise at Hamilton Island, Whitsundays ( photo album here). You would have thought her suspicions would've been aroused, but no, she naively thought it was just a holiday. Little did she know their whole lives would change forever under the stars out on this magical little island...
